Chapter 2: Escape

DUSK

She shook her head, her beautiful delicate fur danced as a whirlwind. She looked back, watching the wolves swim across the shallow river. "Ironide, are you sure what you've heard are true?" she asked, concerned of the fate of the Nyx Pack.
"Dusk," said Ironide, a wolf who's fur was mahogany red and brown, "I, too, am worried."
Dusk sighed. Shadow appeared on the bank with another wolf general, Nytryx, leading a few grey furred wolves. Dusk watched Nytryx leap back to the water to help a few young pups cross.
She remembered how the black wolves and the grey were united, by a marriage done by a pair of ancestors. Some of the grey wolves held white wolves' DNA, and so the pack has become larger than ever. Dusk lifted a black pup from the water, and let it run to his mother. Ironide helped Mist up. Mist shook her wet fur. "Geez, sis, do we have to go?" she complained.
"'Fraid so, sister. Shadow said there were humans," said Dusk.
"Humans! We won against them last time!" whined Mist. "After all, who knows if Midnight is back?"
Dusk fought the tears. "W-we don't know how strong the humans have become since the Hunting War."
"Y-you're right," sighed Mist before moving away. Ironide hauled a mother and her pups up. Dusk helped a pair of white wolves up, and Shadow appeared.
"Too slow! We need to go faster! I can smell the humans!" cried Shadow, his black fur wet.
"We need to help them cross," protested Nytryx.
Three more wolf generals appeared and helped the rest of the pack up, the chief behind them.
"Grey, Rocky, Axel," addressed the chief. "Is everyone here?"
Axel, a grey wolf with a black tail, looked around, and nodded. "They're all here, Chief."
Dusk strode towards the she-wolves, helping them round their pups up. "Dusk," said a pup, "when are we going to stop?"
"Stop what?" asked Dusk, a little distracted.
    "We were always-"
    Dusk moved forwards. "Hold on..."
"What's that?" cried Rocky, staring ahead as well.
"Rocky, Dusk and Grey, look into it," said Shadow.
The chief offered a weary smile. He looks as pale as the moon... thought Dusk.
Grey was a grey wolf with sharp blue eyes, with black paws. He swiftly moved towards the sandy clouds ahead, growing larger by the minute. Dusk and Rocky followed him.
"Howling spirits!" cried Rocky, charging into the clouds of dust. "I think I see hooves!"
    "H-hooves?" stuttered Dusk.
Grey squinted. "Turn around! Now!" cried the grey wolf.
    "What are they?" Dusk asked.
"I think they're buffaloes," said Grey.
Rocky looked baffled. "Buffaloes? Where the fang did they come from?"
"Don't ask me," muttered Grey as they reached the wolves. "Buffaloes are headed this way! Quick! Stay away from the the river! Move out! NOW!"
Immediately, wolves moved out into the emptiness of the fields, knowing swimming to the other side would be their deaths beneath hooves. The wolves ran along the river, rushed, panicked. Dusk could feel the ground shake, for the buffaloes were coming in quickly.
"We'll keep them back for a few moments," said Alex, indicating Rocky and himself as 'we'.
    "It's too dangerous!" protested Nytryx.
Rocky winked. "Never fear, m'lady," he said, jokingly, but gravely, "we serve for the pack's safety."
Nytryx gave Rocky a quick nuzzle. "Be safe."
The two wolves went ahead, and half of the pack was ahead. The wolves almost became as horses beside a river, running by twos in a line.
The chief was ahead, with Shadow by his side.
A few male wolves stayed behind the generals, but Grey urged them ahead. The hooves' thundering became loud, and a yelp of Rocky shocked her. "Ladies, hurry," said Grey. "Rocky and Alex will be fine, just leave this spot and they'll be safe as well."
"I-if you say so," stammered Nyxtryx.
Dusk ran along, beside Nyxtryx. "If Rocky dies, I'll never forgive Mr. Know-It-All Grey," whispered Nyxtryx.
"Nyx, you don't want to do that literally, right?" chided Dusk.
"Oh, you think I can let one die voluntarily?" growled Dusk.
Behind, Grey called for the two and began running as well.
"Hush, Nyx," said Dusk and the black wolf shut her mouth.
A little further away, there was a massive rock, poking out from the soil, and the wolves were gathered there. Dusk leaped onto the rock and, with Nyxtryx, await for the males to return.
Grey appeared charging towards them with Axel and Rocky. Nyxtryx sighed in relief.
From the distance, Dusk squinted, and saw a few buffaloes plunge into the water.
"Water buffaloes," noted the chief. "I've seen them before."
He looked outwards across the river.
    Oh Midnight.

Author's Note: Surprise! The new perspective belongs to Dusk! Who did you think it was going to? Now we all know where the Nyx Pack is going.
Let's stalk a little.
Also, tons of wolves introduced here.

Part 2- Chapter 1: Truth's Secret

MIDNIGHT

    There was no one.
    No one but herself.
She strode towards the den she and Wisp had all their fun memories together.
"Truly, I am the chief," said Midnight.
Sure enough, she ruled as the chief of a deserted barren field without another creature.
This is wrong, Midnight thought as she howled into the empty sky. "My dear brother, where did you go?"
Midnight realised she couldn't stay. She wanted comfort.
Zeta's smiling face offered her reassurance.
Yes, so I shall go to the Silver Woods, thought Midnight. Before she did, the clawed on a rock, and stuck it onto a puddle of drying mud.
The rock simply shows an arrow, pointed towards the Silver Woods, the dirt road. The black wolf turned and pictured the place with the entire pack.
    She couldn't.
    They've betrayed her.
She can only picture Wisp staring sadly at her before disappearing into the fog of her thoughts.
With that, Midnight strode over to the Silver Woods.

    "Don't do that!"
Theta's voice reached Midnight's ears, gladdening her the woods is near.
"I'm starved," said a familiar rather deep voice that Midnight couldn't distinguish.
"You'll be cursed!" cried Zeta's voice.
    Midnight ran towards the voices.
"Oh, yeah, right, cursed," snorted the voice.
Midnight broke through the silver-like leaves. "Cullen! No---!"
The maned wolf looked at her, his red fur tidied by the rain and raindrops was still on his fur. "They mean it," say Midnight.
"They're just afraid I'm going to eat all their prey," said the maned wolf naughtily.
"Must be another of your cursed friend, Middy?" asked Theta.
    "Middy?" asked Midnight.
"My little nicky-name for you," said Theta.
Cullen shrugged and chased after a brown hare. "Ach, he's stubborn," said Omega, appearing.
    "He sure is," sighed Zeta.
"Brother dear," said Theta, "say 'hello' to your friend here."
Omega looked at Midnight. "Hello. How's your emergency journey?" asked the wolf.
    "I- um..." stuttered Midnight.
"I understand if you don't want to talk about it," said Omega, winking.
Midnight looked around. "Where's Hawk? Or Sunrise?"
"Hawk? The cursed wolf?" asked Omega.
Midnight nodded. "He left one day and never returned," said Zeta.
    "W-what about Sunrise?" cried Midnight.
    Theta smiled. "I'll show you."

Sunrise was curled up on a rock, sleeping. "She's adorable," squealed Theta.
"You don't want to wake her, Theta," said a wolf. Lambda. The black wolf's fur, streaking with grey, his grey eyes concerned.
"Yes, Lambda," said Theta, and left, aware Lambda wanted to talked personally to Midnight.
Lambda looked at his claws, then Midnight. "Midnight, I know of the wolves of this place. I know she-wolves come here every now and then. I get reports, and, sure, Alpha loves them as visitors, but let me guess. This is a ritual of a quest," he guessed.
    "Yes, but how-"
Lambda's lips didn't even curve up, as if he wasn't contented to be right. "Midnight, I observe to know these. These quests, do they send you far out?" asked Lambda.
Midnight suddenly gasped. She forgotten the rune stone a long time ago. She didn't enter the forest with it. She didn't. Even if the Nyx Pack were there, they wouldn't believe she actually made it.
    "Do they?" prompted Lambda.
Midnight looked shocked for a second. "T-they do," she stuttered.
    "Where?" asked Lambda.
    "Rygeane Ruins," replied Midnight.
Lambda's eyes were huge, and he muttered, "No."

Author's Note: You probably thought Lambda wasn't scared of anything. Additional characters from sign-ups will be rather minor for now, but they will become more main later on.

Also, I extended the length one one's death. One comment is needed per month to keep the character they made alive.

Also, welcome to part 2! You may sign up a new character if you've filled in a form by Part 1, you can have any creature you want this time IF your location will be in the Silver Woods. I'll update the page sometime, but now you know. You can re-sign-up your dead/runaway character.

Chapter 19: Lone Wolf

    "No!"
Midnight's howl of fury was a cross of rage and sadness. No matter how much she forced the tears to stop, they just keep flooding, never stopping, a burst dam.
    The camp was empty.
A few rocks had scratches, but there was no blood. There was to clue, no tracks, only remaining with memories. Midnight tearfully strode over to the den she shared with Wisp. "Oh, brother dear, why?" she whispered.
Midnight screamed, howling into the empty starry skies. "No! Father! You souless wolf! Heartless father! You're useless as to my life!"
"You took mother away," Midnight said, her voice dropping, "then my dear, dear brother Wisp with the entire pack..."
The Nyx Pack was nowhere in sight.
    "I hate you, dad!"

In the distance, a wolf howled back.

Author's note: Not the end! Come back next week to read part two, chapter one. It will explain all the events and stuff!

Chapter 18: Final Countdown

Midnight walked the path, half running whenever she's not panting. She's tired, and desperate to see Wisp.
    She missed him.
Midnight sauntered away from her path for a bit to drink from a well. Her coat was messy and muddy, a few scars on her body. Midnight sighed as she walked the path again. It began to drizzle, then rain heavily all at once. Midnight struggled against the downpour, the near-to-evening afternoon as midnight.
Midnight began to run. A day's walk... It was evening soon and the rain still poured. The lightning illuminated branches and leaves. Midnight sighed. She hated forests so big such as these. Before long, Midnight felt hungry again. She grumbled and went in search for food. Lucky guardians who never starve, she complained.
Midnight's instincts told her to turn left, then right. She found a beautiful doe grazing on leaves, unattended and alone. Midnight grinned and lunged, but by the time she reached the doe, claws dug into flesh, she found herself faced with a red-furred wolf. Midnight leaped off. "Sorry I didn't-"
"Save it for yourself, I don't need your pity," snapped the wolf.
"N-no! It's your prey, after all," said Midnight, sauntering off.
"You gonna let this deer to waste?" the voice growled.
Midnight snapped back. "You last-touched it! It's yours to take care of!"
"Well, you touched it first!" shouted the wolf.
"You touched the other side as well!"
    "You're so picky with food!"
"You're the one disrespecting your elders!"
Midnight and the maned wolf stared at each other, Midnight studying the wolf was slightly younger than her. The wolf was very tall and muscular, almost as he has been hunting much bigger prey on his own often. Midnight's blue eyes stared intensely into his black ones.
The wolf growled, "Just eat it."
"You think I'll finish the entire doe?" snapped Midnight.
"Then why did you kill it in the first place?" chided the maned wolf.
    "Why did you attack it?"
    Moments of silence.
"You know what?" Midnight said wisely. "Before this doe even decay, we'd be dead by then."
    "Truce?" asked the wolf.
    "No, we share."

The maned wolf sulked about the doe. Midnight received the part she had attacked on and vice-versa for the maned wolf. Midnight looked at the wolf, wondering if he got exiled too, or chose to be a loner...
    Comet's face flashed.
    ...like Comet.
"So... what's your name?" asked Midnight.
"Eh?" asked the maned wolf as if it was in an alien language.
"Your. Name," said Midnight, saying it slowly.
    "Cullen, yours?"
    "Midnight."
    "Midnight isn't here until-"
"I meant my name is Midnight."
Cullen laughed sarcastically. "Pardon me," he laughed between the words.
"Cullen sounds like some sort of food," scoffed Midnight. "Something soft but tough to chew."
Cullen snorted and stood. "Au revoir," he said.
"Our what?" asked Midnight. Cullen snorted and left.
Midnight shrugged and stretched. Then, she continued her journey, her mind rolling with the conversation she and Cullen had.
It could have been dulled by a different wolf.

        Five minutes left.
Midnight quickly ran through the woods, zig-zagging. A countdown automatically played in her mind.
    4:30.
Midnight broke through the bushes. She accidentally fell into a rather deep puddle of mud.
Midnight climbed out against the slippery sides.
    3:48.
Midnight was soaked in mud. She couldn't even run like this. She shook her fur, mud flying at all directions.
    3:00.
Midnight broke through the woods and faced the sunlight. She kept running. The Nyx Pack isn't far. Midnight made a sharp turn to the left, and broke through ferns.
    2:14.
Midnight panted and took in a gulp of air.
    She kept running.
Wisp, Wisp... Wisp! Midnight thought, strengthening herself with his face.
    1:54.
    1:53.
    1:52.
Midnight broke through the final bushes between trees.
    1:00.
With one minute spare to left, she arrived. She expected Wisp to tackle her.
    None came.
    Then, she saw it.

Author's note: I had to fit Cullen there. Ehehehe. He'll appear again.
Yes. This isn't the end. Stay tuned.

Thanks for the character, GreatShot!

Chapter 17: Home's Path

    "Leave her alone!"
A familiar voice shattered Midnight's memories of home, the strong face of Wisp, Dusk's and Mist's face and even her father's.
Someone was attacking the timber wolves. On their backs, nipping and throwing them off.
A black wolf was before her.
    Hawk.
Like a bird, he had swooped down from nowhere.
"Midnight, you okay?" he asked, concern wrapping his voice.
    "Y-yeah," Midnight replied.
Hawk pushed a wolf away from him with his hind leg. "Where's Sunrise?" asked Midnight.
"I shouldn't tell you, there are timber wolves," said Hawk.
Midnight shook her left hind leg. "I- I can walk," she muttered. "Let's go."
Hawk lead the way, the two fighting off any timber wolves in their way, but soon, most of them decided to leave them alone, seeing what they can do. When their path was clear, the two ran. Soon, Midnight and Hawk made it out, where Sunrise was waiting on a tree.
"Why is she there?" asked Midnight.
Hawk grinned. "I climb trees. It's like that you kill."
    "I- I didn't mean to, Hawk! I won't kill purposely," said Midnight.
Hawk shrugged, letting Sunrise rest on his back. "Where are we off to now?" asked the wolf.
Midnight looked down, a dirt path. "We follow this path to the Silver Woods," she replied. "Come on, Hawk."

It was about three in the afternoon. There was a silence as the three walked, only to be disturbed by the sound of crunching leaves. "Oh, you're back with friends," said a voice. Omega stood there, his mint green eyes twinkling, his white-and-black fur caught the rays of the sun.
Alpha was behind him. "Yet still unable to find the history of her lies," he said, shaking his head.
"This wolf too," said a new voice Midnight never heard. A black wolf with a white hind-paw and his fur had hints of grey here and there.
    "L-Lambda," said Omega.
Lambda smiled sadly. "I am afraid these three will not be happy here."
    "Three?" puzzled Midnight.
    Lambda nodded. "The fox too."
    Alpha laughed. "The cursed crew."
Hawk bared his fangs. "S-shut up!"
"Aww, he's cute," said a new voice. Zeta and another wolf approached them.
"Z-Zeta," stammered Midnight. "I need to get out of here, please, it's an emergency."
"Are you hungry, dear?" asked the wolf beside Zeta, her emerald eyes sparkled with joy, her grey fur streaked with cocoa brown.
"Hush, Theta!" hissed Zeta. "Midnight, what's ever so wrong?"
Midnight looked around her. Her audience was huge. "I need to go... Or..."
    Midnight couldn't finish her sentence.
Hawk hissed. "Just get out of our way," said Hawk.
"What is your path?" asked Lambda.
    "Revenge," said Hawk.
Lambda smiled weakly. "We shall stay clear of your path, but, little wolf, your path will not be clear. It will not be clear."
With those words, the wolves parted and gave a path for Midnight and Hawk, Sunrise of Hawk's back. "Who are those mad fools?" asked Hawk in a whisper as Midnight and him walked past the wolves.
"They're the Guardian of the Silver Woods," said Midnight. "They inhabit this place, I guess they do magic by making no one starve here, animals here, when eaten, causes one to be cursed."
"A little pack of wolves gods-wanna-be," scoffed Hawk.
Midnight shrugged and looked at Sunrise. At such a young age! How could the fox be cursed? How?
Midnight looked at the path ahead. "I need to hurry, or afternoon will be over..."
Midnight reached to grab Sunrise in her jaws, but Hawk said, "Are you sure you don't want to just leave her here?" asked Hawk.
The black wolf nodded. She returned Sunrise. "Wish me luck."
    Hawk nodded in return.
With that, Midnight raced down the path, then she let sun rays fall on her face, the afternoon heat warming her. She rested for a few minutes, snacking on a nearby hare she caught and then quickly sped down the path.
She didn't remember who said it, but she remember it was a day's walk- or run.

Author's Note: Uh, good-bye Hawk. Anyway, I changed the template of the blog- don't freak out.
