"Midnight?" asked a voice.
Midnight turned her neck to look back. A dark-grey wolf prodded over to her. "What?" she snapped.
"Your father calls for you," was the reply.
Midnight sighed. "Our father is such a bothersome."
The grey wolf can only agree sadly. Their father, their chief, always abandon the old ways. He changed the Pack Rules, he took out the good rules and replaced them with junk. With his advisor's help, the chief managed to put the worst rule ever: she-wolves are not to be trusted until they are able to succeed the Pack Quest.
She, Midnight, is a she-wolf, daughter of her own chief who approved such rules. Worse, the chief expected more from her- to complete the Pack Quest alone.
"You better go, though, Midnight," said the grey wolf. "Father doesn't look as well as he was yesterday."
"He's sick," guessed Midnight. "He wants me to take over. Right, Wisp?"
Wisp coughed. "I... don't know," he said, but Midnight knew he was lying.
"Fine, I'll go," grumbled Midnight, a dreaded feeling wrapping her heart. She knew that their conversation, her conversation with her father, would slip to talk about the Pack Quest.
