Chapter 29: Gamma

MIDNIGHT

Midnight hissed as she rolled across the ground. A puppy was licking her. "Knock it off!" cried Midnight, pushing the pup off.
"Gamma!" protested a voice. They looked up and saw Theta, pinning Gamma in place by stepping on his short tail.
"Hey, you were the one who asked me to become a puppy!" objected Gamma.
"Change back," said Theta sternly, and, in a burst of light, Theta was now stepping on a long bushy tail of brown and black.
"Whoa," said Blaze. He never got tired seeing transformations, while Midnight had enough. Pi's magic class had been help, though.
"I thought you knew to turn into the greyhound, not the chihuahua puppy!" retorted Theta.
"Sis!" cried Blaze and strode towards the wolf, smiling at her. Gamma hissed.
"So, this is Gamma, the once-lost guy," said Theta.
"H-hey! I was chasing predators!" growled Gamma in response.
Theta's voice softened. "Gamma, you know you shouldn't have left your post..."
"I know... but those shadow-demons were taunting me," Gamma scowled.
"We all know that well," said a voice. Midnight looked up and saw Lambda approaching them. "Gamma, you know better than to fall for such traps. Where's Iota? She was supposed to switch places with you. I haven't seen her in days either."
"Alpha is taking care of my part," Gamma whimpered, intimidated by Lambda. However, after hearing Pi's story, Midnight wondered why would Lambda remain as a wolf if he was so powerful.
"As for Alpha's part?" growled Lambda.
Gamma was silent and Theta said, "Delta."
Lambda was silent. "Gamma, rest and then we need to talk before your shift," he finally said. "Theta, find Iota."
"Aye," said the she-wolf and quickly ran off into the woods. Midnight and Blaze was disappointed. They didn't get any time to talk with Theta.
"Gamma, I expect you to be on the North Hill in two hours," said Lambda sternly and left.
    "Geez, he's scary," whimpered Blaze.
    Gamma sighed. "I know right?"
Midnight frowned. "Hey, it was you who grabbed his attention of anger," she  reminded.
Gamma shrugged. "Yeah, I did," he said, his grey eyes shining with the silvery light of the forest.
"So, why did you abandon post?" asked Midnight.
Gamma cocked his head. "Well, let me tell you about it. Lately, there has been many angers by the borders of the woods. Fortunately, only those of benevolence can break through a certain aura-bubble that made this place a haven, so they can't pass, but they believe then can, and has been struggling to get in for as long as a month."
"I didn't see them when I entered," scoffed Midnight.
"They're usually where the forests are less dense, a little by the edge of Lambda's territory," Gamma replied.
    Blaze looked interested.
"Shadow-demons always taunted us to have only regained form as a wolf. However, we have little magic in us, however weak. Whatever they told you, we all can shapeshift whenever, from any form, but we cannot remain full-time as it, unlike Pi and Epsilon," said Gamma. "Shadow-demons were path deaths, formed together to serve themselves for their purpose, but lately, it seems like they're taking orders."
    "Orders?"
Gamma cleared his throat. "I believe Beta is still alive, planning, er, no, plotting his revenge on us. He has risen once more... I tried to grab answers out of them, but they surprised me. I retreated, and, apparently, left my post and the battled dragged on for a long time I didn't notice, and taken me far away from my area."
"Still, um, Mr. Gamma, can the barrier be broken?" asked Blaze.
Gamma frowned. "For that answer, you need to inquire Lambda. I need to meet Lambda soon, the sun is starting to venture downwards, I must leave."
With that, the wolf turned and left Midnight and Blaze, both bubbling with curiosity.

Author's Note: Guys, I seriously forgot yesterday was a Sunday, aaah. So, I'm running low in ideas and comments to eat. Happy Chinese New Year!
